Blank screen instead of kdm

Bug Description

I'm using Kubuntu edgy beta, to which I upgraded from dapper.

After usplash, the screen just goes blank until I press any key, after which I get tty1 instead of kdm. As soon as I press Ctrl+Alt+F7, kdm starts up just fine, but I do have to perform this step manually.

Bug 64045 describes this problem on Toshiba laptops, but mine is an MSI S260. Full specs are at http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/notebook/nb/pro_nb_detail.php?UID=607

I'm not familiar with Launchpad, so I have no idea how to mark this fixed or invalid or whatever, but I just apt-get dist-upgraded and it appears to be working properly now.

I didn't change anything and it happened again. Very inconsistent.

I think this might be related:
Oct 16 09:07:05 helium kdm: :0[3932]: Hung in XOpenDisplay(:0), aborting
Oct 16 09:07:05 helium kdm: :0[3932]: Cannot connect to :0, giving up
Oct 16 09:07:05 helium kdm[3893]: Display :0 cannot be opened
Oct 16 09:10:10 helium kdm_greet[4374]: Can't open default user face
Oct 16 09:10:20 helium kdm_greet[4374]: Internal error: memory corruption detected
My problem is (I think) the same: I am booting my laptop and just see a very strange graphic (it looks like a testscreen on television...). In the end I see a black screen. Pressing any key I get to tty1. Pressing Ctrl-Alt-F7 starts KDM.

I'll close the bug now, since there is confusing reports if it is fixed or not. Reopen if you still see it with Feisty.
