Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution

If I receive an email with a long URL... ie: like an email from eBay with a link to an auction item... when passing the URL off to a web browser (Firefox, Chrome), it truncates the URL to approx 148 characters... thereby ending up with an incomplete URL. Here's an example:

http://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/e11021.m45.l1123/7?euid=f09c3f753cb04498b9738df03d10463b&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Fws%2FeBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D180563642156%26ssPageName%3DADME%3AB%3ASS%3AUS%3A1123

it truncates to approx this:

http://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/e11021.m45.l1123/7?euid=f09c3f753cb04498b9738df03d10463b&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Fws%2FeBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem

This bug is an upstream one and it would be quite helpful if somebody experiencing it could send the bug the to the people writing the software. You can learn more about how to do this for various upstreams at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME .
Once submitted upstream , do report back here with the upstream bug number. Thanks in advance!

But the problem is with Evolution, not Firefox. I can copy/paste the
long URL into an OpenOffice Writer document, and when I use the link
from that, Firefox properly opens to the eBay page for the example that
I gave.

Hmm, actually I'm not able to reproduce the problem with the link given in the bug.
The link you mention here is just redirecting now.

But i notice the problem of truncated links. and those do not copy over to OpenOffice Writer.

Could you provide another example?

Although that specific eBay auction is over, these same links still show
my problem. Click on the first long URL (in a email viewed in Evolution)
and it'll take you to an eBay page that indicates that the listing has
been removed, or the item is not available. However, if you copy that
same long URL directly from the email viewed in Evolution, and then
manually paste it into Firefox, it'll correctly take you to an eBay page
that shows the auction has ended, and further down, you'll see the
specific item.

If you create a new OO Writer document, and paste that same long URL,
follow by a carriage return, copied from the email in Evolution, and
then right-click directly on that URL in the OO Writer document, and
select Open Hyperlink from the contextual menu, it correctly takes you
to the auction has ended page, as it should. No URL truncation, as in
Evolution.

Hope that helps.
