Bug Description

Just zsynced the 20 Sept Netbook image for Maverick and attempted to boot on a Lenovo S10 netbook. The netbook image does not boot. It gets as far as the SYSLINUX line and then that's it. It doesn't appeared to be hard locked, as I still get some interrupts (capslock lights the led) so at least there's something going on, but the kernel just isn't booting in the netbook ISO.

Hi Jeff,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/current/ . If the issue remains, please run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 644138

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Jeff,

This looks to be a duplicate of bug 634702 so I am marking it as such for now. The Ubuntu kernel dev assigned to that bug has narrowed down a work around for the moment, ie pass in "intel_idle.max_cstate=0" at boot which will disable the intel_idle driver and fall back to acpi_idle. Please continue to use bug 634702 for any future correspondence regarding this issue. Thanks!

Leann,

I've unduplicated this after reading the bug you mentioned. I think they are separate issues. The bug you reference is related to not being able to boot the later maverick kernels after UPDATING a Lucid install to Maverick. In my case, I can not even boot the Netbook ISO image to do the initial install.

My problem is the ISO itself... The ISO as of 20 Sept did not even completely display the SYSLINUX line prior to just hanging up. I just synced the image as of 21 Sept (22 Sept in Taipei where I'm sitting right now) and that image at least displays the full SYSLINUX header, but then says "vesamenu.c32: not a COM32R image"

SO in essence, I can't even get far enough in to actually experience the failure in the bug you mentioned.

Marking as duplicate of a different bug that is the actual issue... usb-creator is broken.
