It is a known issue in OpenJDK. (Maybe same known issues with Sun-Java 1.6 Update 18?)
This can be resolved by using sun-java
1.) enable partner repos
2.) sudo apt-get update
3.) sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre
4.) sudo update-alternatives --config java
4.1.) select sun java as default

no more java crashes.
