Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

A minor graphical issue.

When I scroll pages with mouse scroller or up/down keys, the left grey edge of the vertical scroll-bar remains on the initial position while the bar is moving up or down. Same problem when I click and drag the bar, but when the left mouse button is released the edge tracks the rest of the bar.

What version are you using? There doesn't seem to be a problem for me in Edgy with the latest version.

Other infos. I use KDE and it seems the issue is related to Lipstik
style theme, if I use for example Polyester theme I don't have the
issue. So it's a very minor problem.

Also Plastik is affected. So Plastik and Lipstik. I set KDE to "use my
KDE style in GTK apps". The other themes aren't affected.

Sorry, I can't provide you a screen-shot, because as I click something
in the Firefox window or anywhere, or as I type a key, the gray left
edge of the scrollbar tracks the scrollbar, going in its right place...

Problem is still present in Fiesty. I am using plastik theme, but it also occurs with other themes. Installing the firefox scrollbar fix in the control centre does not help.

It's actually impossible to provide a screenshot since pressing print screen causes the scrollbar to redraw correctly. You can see this bug for yourself by opening a page long enough to make the bar appear and rolling down on your mouse wheel.

Maybe this is related to Qt gtk+ engine? Anyone can test if that is the case please?

I'm seeing this bug with the Plastik style. Managed to get a screenshot using a time delay in KSnapshot, which is attached.

I think this is a bug in the GTK-QT engine. This bug in SUSU Linux reports the same problem and has a patch:

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=143263

I don't know if their patch could be adapted for use in the current code. Also I think their patch causes the slider to be about 2 pixels too narrow when compared to the slider arrow buttons, which is kind of fixing one bug and creating another. I'll change this bug to be against the gtk-qt-engine package (if I can).

Changed bug to be against gtk-qt-engine instead of firefox, and assigned to nobody instead of mozilla-bugs since the bug isn't in firefox code.

I use Kubuntu 7.10, FF 2.0.0.9 and Domino Style. Scrollbars in Firefox and Thunderbird looks broken (see a screenshots). The fix in "System Settings" does't work.

Here's another for Kubuntu 7.10 (actually using Linux Mint Daryna KDE CE, but it's based on Kubuntu). The supposed "fix" doesn't work, and the problem persists regardless of the theme used.

how to fix ALMOST domino style scrollbars in firefox on kubuntu 7.10:
sudo apt-get remove --purge gtk-qt-engine
sudo apt-get install gettext libbonoboui2-dev cmake libgtk2.0-dev g++ kdebase-dev

download gtk-qt-engine source from:
http://gtk-qt.ecs.soton.ac.uk/downloads.php
extract it
cd /path/to/gtk-qt-engine
./configure
make
sudo make install

run kcontrol
appearance> gtk styles and fonts
check "use my kde style in gtk applications" and "Install firefox scrollbar fix"

Everything appears as it should with domino style.
