package bacula-director-mysql 5.0.1-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
"Told mysql root password was incorrect although password was created as part of setup on fresh ubuntu install on virtualbox.
Given option to abort, retry or ignore but retry resulted in the same option "

Hi Daniel, thanks for taking the time to report this issue and help us make Ubuntu better.

This is a duplicate of bug #321091.

The workaround for the issue is to run 'dpkg --configure -a' after you have started mysql.
