Bug Description

I setup an NTFS partition for Windows Vista Ultimate 64 and I've tried several times to dual boot from it. I can install it the first time, but when I restart into Vista it freezes. When I restart the computer into Ubuntu or Linux Mint based on Ubuntu 10.04 the NAT is so completely disabled that it doesn't light up when I plug it in. Linux cannot enable the network card on my Asus M3A motherboard no matter what I do UNTIL I pull the battery out of my motherboard for a few seconds and restart. Then it's fine.

Needless to say, I'm getting rid of Vista, but I fear that this sort of suspicious Microsoft behavior must be frightening off countless new Linux users.

I would experience something similar when dual booting between XP and Karmic. If I was using XP and if the computer went into hibernation, and then I booted Karmic, the ethernet card would be unresponsive and would not establish an Internet connection. To resolve this, I would to restart into XP and shutdown XP correctly and completely, then boot into Karmic in order to use the ethernet card.

No, I have not. I removed the partition and went with a stand-alone
Linux Mint system. It seems to me that it was more of a firmware issue,
but if anybody can find a fix for it, it's the Ubuntu Community.
