ubuntu starts non-default browser

Bug Description

Binary package hint: gconf

The system starts the non-default browser at times. I have firefox and chromium installed. Firefox is set as default browser. Any time the system directs to a website chromium starts up. Examples:
ubuntu-bug start up chromium
The link in the gedit about box
The help--> virtualbox website menu item in virtualbox
About GNOME in the about gnome window
etc..
