Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

I can only provide info from a working install of Kubuntu 10.04, since 10.10 is pretty much unusable, had to reinstall Lucid to be able to send any kind of report, since w3m (text-based web browser) does not allow me to login in Launchpad.

X or kdm completely freezes after booting 10.10. All updates 12th September - I chose to install all available updates during install.

Same kind of problem here:
Whether I try to install Kubuntu 10.10 RC (Ubiquity installer) or just to test it with the live CD, the system freezes. By freezing, I mean:
- no refresh of the screen
- keyboard not responding (even the "NumLock" key)
- mouse pointer still movable, but click doesn't work
The only thing left to do is to hit the reset button of my computer.
Actually, I've experienced the same problem with versions 10.04 and 10.04.1.
I suspect this could have something to do with the nouveau driver.
My computer has an Intel Pentium Dual Core CPU and a NVidia GeForce 6600GT graphic card.

For me, everything worked fine on 10.04. Since I upgraded to 10.10, the desktop freezes regularly on my laptop. Only thing that works after that is pressing the power button for about 4s to switch power off.

I'm also using nvidia drivers (nvidia-current 260.19.06-0ubuntu1) with a Quadro FX 770M.

Closing this bug report, since the problem seems to have resolved itself (probably with updates).

Changed in nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu):
