Bug Description

The touchpad is not working at all on my new Sony Vaio VPCF12S1E laptop.
I have tested this with live CD for 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) and a 10.10 beta release CD. I downloaded both CD's yesterday.

According to windows the touchpad has an ALPS touchpad.

This guy seems to have a similar problem with this laptop and fedora 13:
http://fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=249230

I'd be happy to give any additional information and do testing for you.
How do I upload apport-files?
Which terminal commands should I run to give you additional info?

Hi Olof,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/current/ . If the issue remains, please run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 636842

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

I am following this guide now:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection#generalinfo

I have attached the output of:
cat /proc/bus/input/devices >~/devices

There is nothing like "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" in that file.
My external USB mouse is the "Mionix Technology Ltd Saiph 3200 Gaming Mouse"
