update-alternatives: error: alternative path /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/scim doesn't exist.

That seems to be the problem. The strange thing is, the lucid as well as the karmic package do provide the file. I'm getting a feeling this is not a valid problem. Did you remove that file?
