Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

Hi !

[using Maverick Beta]

Is it possible to enable "VSync" by default in Compiz in order to prevent tearing when playing video files / moving windows ? Indeed, vertical synchronization is disabled by default in Compiz and one needs to install the additional "ccsm" utility in order to change it, which is definitely not very user friendly.

IMHO, this is definitely worth the little tradeoff (a little fewer FPS in games). Moreover, OSX and Vista/7 do enable VSync by default.

[Additionally, I'll file another bug regarding the default nvidia settings.]

Ah, I see. Maybe those driver will be fixed in the future.

But shouldn't this VSync setting be available from the default Appearance manager ? (or at least in simple-ccsm which is the tool accesible from the Appearance preferences -> custom setting). Otherwise, only "advanced" users will see this.

(Maybe this is on purpose too, if VSync + Compiz is broken with many GFX drivers.)

Well, if drivers are at fault, I guess this cannot be solved...

Thanks for replying anyway !

Thanks for the report, it has been some time without any response or feedback in this bug report and we are wondering if this is still an issue for you with the latest release of Ubuntu the Natty Narwhal, May you please test with that version and comment back if you're still having or not the issue? Please have a look at http://www.ubuntu.com/download to know how to install that version. Thanks in advance and sorry for the late response.
