Bug Description

new to linux

having lots of problems

tried 10.04 and now trying 10.10
neither will install my nvidia fx5700 graphics card even though there are two linux drivers
i cant open any software, open office, software centre, etc
it will open firefox and system apps but i cant get it to do anything else

not a good start to my possible switch from windows
please help

Thank you for this report. You installed 10.04, applications failed, so you upgraded to 10.10 without fixing the failures?

At this point, you can try running fsck by booting to the recovery menu. You can also open a terminal and try running
sudo dpkg --configure -a
and then try updating again.

Please do not try to update versions if something is already broken, it will fail.
