Bug Description

Binary package hint: kcm-touchpad

Release: KUbuntu 10.04

Package version: 0.3.1-0ubuntu3

Expect to happen: KDE4 should always start without a crash

What happens instead:
KDE4 starts normally only after the first login. After doing logout and any subsequent logins, KDE4 report
a crash in KCMInit due to the touchpad control module (kcm_touchpad.so). In case of the crash, the touchpad
settings are not get loaded, though it is more important for me that keyboard settings (like the ones controlling the
language switching) are not loaded as well - maybe KCMInit should load them after touchpad settings, and does not do
so due to the crash in the touchpad module. The stack backtrace of the crash is attached.

Also, if this crash of KCMInit on sturtup did happen, the touchpad configuration module is greyed out entirely, the touchpad just cannot be configured in such KDE sessions.

I have just noted that if I restart X from KDM (alt+E) after logout and only then login again, the crash of KCMInit does not happen. However it happens again after the subsequent re-logins (if I do not restart X). So restarting X after each logout removes the crashes completely, but this way is very inconvenient. I do not know whether this is possible to do automatically, there is no any similar option in the KDM configuration module.

I have found a kde bug

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=224078

which is probably the same as this one.

It is marked "RESOLVED DOWNSTREAM", which should mean "caused by an issue is the way KDE was packaged by a particular vendor"
