Bug Description
Upgrade from Lucid (10.04) to Maverick (10.10) Beta (6 september), what results in crashing of Xorg, so I had to boot to commandline (safe graphics mode didn't do it), and tried several things... Don't know what did it, but it is a combination of trying to deïnstall and install fglrx, with apt-get, aptitude, synaptic, update-manager...
I use ATI HD3450, AMD64 Ubuntu 64bit
Now I've next problem, but I can boot without much problems (only I get the terminal on boot, don't know why), but apt-get and update manager are giving problems:
update manager says: Not all update could be installed (translated from Dutch), it try's to suggest a partial upgrade. I click the button Partial Upgrade, and it starts upgrading, after about 30 seconds, it says
Uw systeem is up-to-date
Er zijn geen upgrades beschikbaar voor uw systeem. De upgrade wordt nu geannuleerd.
What means:
Your system is up-to-date
There are to upgrades for your system. The upgrade will be canceled.
Then I click close, and update-manager closes... It doesn't do anything if I repeat starting Update-manager, it keeps asking me...
If I click close, it tells me
Software index is broken
It is impossible to install or remove any software. Please use the package manager "Synaptic" or run "sudo apt-get install -f" in a terminal to fix this issue at first.
Then I run: sudo apt-get install -f

I tried to install Ubuntu Maverik, when I try to install the ati drivers from repository, it doesn't compile the kernel modules. So I try to install the latest version from ati web page. It compile if I run: installer- 10-8-x86. x86_64. run --buildpkg Ubuntu/maverick
sudo ./ati-driver-
So the deb packages was made OK, and installed succesfully. The kernel module loads ok, but when the X module for fglrx doesn't load correctly, so I can't startx with the fglrx module.
