Add color

This is a possible addition to the code at a later date (I have some of the framework setup in a branch but it's not working currently) but will not be neccesary for 1.0 release.

My branch has working color (runs using a 'if availible, use it' strategy) should it be optional / switchable somehow?

I think it should be switchable somehow, but as long as it doesn't cause errors if color is not available it'll be fine for now. Anyway, I've created a new bug to do with program settings: bug #632490

With regards to my branch the code is a little outdated. It should still merge perfectly with the trunk but to be able to code in color features in the newer functions a merge will be necessary. I'll suggest a merge in launchpad so you can look the code over.

I'll change the title to simply 'add color', adding an option to switch it on and off can go to another bug report.
