I think your python is busted, which caused everything that uses python to fail on update. (All the segmentation faults occurring in the log are when a python-using package is updated.

I agree with the analysis. maybe reinstalling the python2.6 and python2.6-minimal packages could help? did the machine crash before during the upgrade?
