Bug Description

Binary package hint: cryptsetup

Instructions to reproduce:
1) Install Ubuntu Server Edition 10.04
2) During the install select the 'Encrypted LVM' preset
3) After install, boot and at the console you will be asked for you passphrase

What happens:
One line is created for every character entered.

Please enter your passphrase:*
Please enter your passphrase:**
Please enter your passphrase:***
Please enter your passphrase:****
...

Expected:
The whole passpharse on one line.

Please enter your passphrase:****

This is also reproducible on desktop as well, just press enter when you get to the graphical Ubuntu slash screen (with the dots) asking you for the passphrase. This only affects systems which mount an encrypted LUKS or LVM at boot. This is an aesthetic bug only, it has no outcome on the use of the encrypted drives, just a minor inconvenience for console users.

I can confirm this issue i Lucid (ubuntu-10.04.1-server-amd64.iso and cryptsetup 1.1.0~rc2-1ubuntu13) as well as in the Maverick Beta (ubuntu-10.10-beta-server-amd64.iso and cryptsetup 1.1.2-1ubuntu1). I am not entirely sure on whatever this is an issue with cryptsetup or some other component.

Changed in cryptsetup (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed
importance: Undecided → Low

As a comparison, this does not appear to be a problem in Ubuntu 9.10.
