Bug Description

Binary package hint: wine

Wine is taking upwards of a minute to start even simple apps (eg. winecfg). This has been happeniong since I upgraded to Dapper, and now I'm running Edgy and the problem is still here. I've tried wine packages from both the official repositories and wine's own one, with versions between around 0.9.7 (I think) and the current one. On Breezy, I was running the packages from the wine site, and there was no speed problem.

what version of wine are you running?
quintok@home:~$ wine --version
Wine 0.9.21
Have you tried to build your own from wine's GIT repository?
winecfg (from edgy's wine repository) for me loads in about 4 seconds.

Same version, although the problem's been there with every version I've used since I moved to Dapper in April.

I haven't tried building it myself, yet.

OK, I tried building wine from git, but it just segfaulted on startup (it segfaulted /quickly/, though :))

Never mind.

I reinstalled the packaged version and now I'm getting more sensible startup times. I'm sure I've tried this before, though...
