Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

Hi!

After upgrading from 10.04 (which had some issues, but worked all right) to the 10.10 beta i had this problem from the first restart on.

I never see a splash screen while starting ubuntu, instead:

[12.724701] k8temp 0000:00:18.3: no usable aperture found

is the first error message displayed.

X doesn't start but everything else seems alright.
so after logging in, and typing "startx" i get

====== warning warning warning =====
this server has a video driver ABI version of 8.0 that this
driver does not officially support. please check
htttp://www.nvidia.com/ for drvier updates or downgrade to an X
server iwth a supported driver ABI.
=============
(EE) Nvidia: Use the -inoreABI option to override this check
(EE) Failed to load module "nvidia" (module requirement mismatch, 0)
(EE) No drivers available

even with startx -ignoreabi i can't start x

im not sure if it it's really a duplicate:

just citating the other bug report:

"* Using normal boot sequence: stuck after a few seconds on splashscreen
* Using recovery mode: stuck on a black screen before the "what do you want to do" blue menu"

i never see a splash screen, i never get a blue menu
