Bug Description

Binary package hint: youtube-dl

Trying to download many YouTube videos fails unless python-gdata is installed. youtube-dl does not depend, in apt, on python-gdata. Neither of these two facts is immediately obvious (I actually figured it out while reading something about Totem's YouTube plugin).

Could you clarify why you think that youtube-dl needs python-gdata? I
don't have python-gdata installed and it works fine. The same things
applies to 2 other embedded architectures where youtube-dl has been
working fine for a long time.

Are you confusing youtube-dl (the command line program) with another
program, perhaps?

Regards,

Huh. It appears that the problem was actually solved by getting the latest version of youtube-dl, NOT by installing python-gdata.

A thousand apologies for wasting your time with my overzealous troubleshooting.

No problems.

It is still a problem with the distribution, since the package stopped working and no updates were released.
