Bug Description

Last night, I upgraded my g4-based Mac Mini from 6.06LTS to edgy, and to my surprise, the machine has begun to lock up. It has so far locked up twice, at almost exactly 1 hour after booting. I believe the bcm43xx driver is to blame, because of what I saw in syslog. I'm using the edgy-cafuego firmware for the bcm43xx driver (which is another difference).

Could you please include attach a copy of /var/log/kern.log to this bug report using its web page?

It is unlikely that it's the bcm43xx driver, as it manages to restart the controller correctly. It could be a memory problem, in which case following the instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MemoryTest should indicate something.

Thanks.

No, the bcm43xx restart code does have a tendancy to lock up the
machine. I've seen similar issues here. There's a patch available, we'll
try to integrate it after beta.

After those two lockups, I'm noting that I haven't yet seen another freeze (after running for a few hours). Attaching the kern.log as requested.

This is probably a dupe of bug 61388

The 18 month support period for Edgy Eft 6.10 has reached its end of life. As a result, we are closing the linux-source-2.6.17 Edgy Eft kernel task. However, development has already began for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. It would be helpful if you could test the upcoming release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . If the issue still exists, please update this report by changing the Status of the "linux" task from "Incomplete" to "New". We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Thanks!
