Shrink URL button doesn't shrink URL

Bug Description
The URL shrinking does not appear to properly shrink the URL. No error messages are provided.
If you are not the administrator user, clicking on the Shrink URL button also disables the "Send" button, meaning that you will not be able to post your note.
I have tried using the tinyurl converter, the bit.ly converter (without an API/login), and the ves.cat converter and none of them appear to work.
Firefox 3.6.8 (Mac OS 10.5.8)
