[edgy] splash screen on startup needs to give feedback

I'll attach a screenshot of what I see.

When edgy is booting, splash screen has only a progress bar. it needs to say what it's doing so the user can be sure the computer did not hang.

also if the comp hangs, it will be easier for the user to understand what went wrong.

please set importace to a higher level, as this will cause problems with diagnosing boot hang problems / bugs.

If the computer hangs, usplash will time out and exit to any error messages.

But not when using vesafb, because there will be no text shown on any console ;-), see bug #61718.

this tells me "usplash will time out and exit to any error messages" may not work as expected. some feedback would be a nice backup to fall back to if that occurs.

If you remove the "quiet" option from the line "# defoptions=quiet splash" in /boot/grub/menu.lst and run update-grub, the startup details are displayed in the usplash screen. After doing this, I am able to get the messages on the usplash screen as it was appearing in the previous usplash version.
