Bug Description
Binary package hint: firefox
1. 10.0.4
2. Firefox 3.6.8
3 and 4. It just did it again while I was trying to enter this before. (I'd stopped typing for all of 2s, and then no more firefox). It doesn't matter what I'm doing, sometimes it will crash while just sitting there, sometimes if I change tabs, or scroll a page down, sometimes while loading. It's not always the pipe error - I've been running from command line so I can catch output. apport does not catch the crash except once or twice and then can't send it. Anyway, usually it just says "Segmentation fault" with no other error, but when there is more information, the pipe error is the most common. I have completely removed the firefox package and reinstalled it. No change. I removed the .mozilla directory, created a new profile, no difference. I have no addons now, to make sure they weren't causing the problem - no difference. This has been going on for a little over a week - it will be fine for a few hours, then crash several times within a few minutes, all with the same web pages (and they're all pages that are regular visits for months or years)
I also ran it in safemode, it still crashed. I can't think of anything else to add

Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Sometimes Firefox profiles can become corrupt and/or extensions can conflict. Could you please try this with a new profile and see if the problem still exists? You do not need to delete your old profile to test. If this helps, you might want to try to disable all your extensions and re-enable them one by one until you find the problematic one.
You can start the profile manager with the following command:
firefox -ProfileManager
