Bug Description

If I download a file, Firefox asks me, if I want to save the file, or if I want to open the file with an application. If I choose "Open with" and then select "other", instead of the default application, Firefox opens the normal dialog showing files and folders.

I think it would be very useful, if Firefox opens the "Open With Other Application" dialog, because otherwise I can't select an application. For new users it would be also much easier.

Thanks for your bug report. Since this is behaviour in the Firefox application, I'm assigning it to the firefox package.

When reporting other bugs, you can find hints for assigning your bug correctly the first time at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage

affects: ubuntu → firefox (Ubuntu)

I also think it would be much easier for a new user if it displayed a list of common applications that apply to the certain file type that you're trying to open rather than a generic file browser. I'm marking this as wishlist because it is more of a feature request than an actual bug.

Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu 10.10 install, that affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be addressed as part of this project.

This is actually a very old bug that requires implementation upstream.
For further information about papercuts criteria, please read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut.

Don't worry though, this bug has been marked as "Invalid" only in the papercuts project.
