Bug Description

I'm running the latest edgy on x86. I have a Samsung ML-1740 printer. When I go through the printing wizard, I choose to add a local printer, and specify my LPT 1 port. I then choose the Samsung ML-1740 driver, which uses splix. I then hit apply. The wizard will hang for a couple minutes, and close. When I return to the Printers dialog, no printers will have been added. When running from the console, I get this error message:*

* (gnome-cups-add:8448): WARNING **: IPP request failed with status 1280

I experience the same troubles when trying to add a network printer (IPP).

I go through the steps in adding a printer (gnome-cups-add I assume), but when finished no new printer is installed?

In /var/log/cups/error_log is says:
"E [03/Oct/2006:15:13:40 +0200] CUPS-Add-Modify-Printer: Unauthorized"

In /var/log/cups/access_log is:
"localhost - - [03/Oct/2006:15:12:59 +0200] "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 1595 CUPS-Get-Devices -
localhost - - [03/Oct/2006:15:13:02 +0200] "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 1176337 CUPS-Get-PPDs -

I am on newest state of Edgy!

And I am not having problems with my ppd:

"cupstestppd CLP-510.ppd" gives the following:

CLP-510.ppd: PASS
WARN DefaultLinuxGDIBand has no corresponding options!
        WARN Obsolete PPD version 4,0!
                REF: Page 42, section 5.2.

And the printer worked just fine in Dapper.

the cupsys errorlog says "unathorized" - even if I run the gnome-cups-add as root?

Ok, I think that I am not reporting the same bug as the originally described.

Should I open a new with my problems?

2hansen, your report seems to be really different from the one of the original poster. So I recommend you to start a new bug report.

Do not worry about the output of "cupstestppd", its result is "PASS" and so the warnings should not prevent you from printing with CUPS.
