Sebastian, a full backtrace report is not possible, because the x-server crashes when the bug is detected by gdb. Btw: Im experiencing the same problem, which Krishna reported a few days ago...
Try to slide down and up the volume bar as fast as you can while playing a video or sound file.

Gdm reports the following when it detects the crash:

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
[Switching to Thread 0xb3bfab70 (LWP 3825)]
0x00000000 in ?? ()
(gdb) Hangup detected on fd 0
Error detected on fd 0
error detected on stdin

The full gdb report can you find as an attachment.

A memcheck with valgrind doesn't work, because totem reacts too slow.

I have the same problem, totem sometimes crashes when changing volume. This does not seem to depend on file type played - I've got this error with mp3, avi, wma and others. Also, similar problem appears in Rhythmbox, as described in Bug #517310.
I've installed all -dbg files necessary and attach crash trace here.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Oneiric Ocelot. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
