Using Ubuntu 10.04.1
I was trying to update the VLC player from version 1.0.6 Goldeneye to version VLC 1.12 as described in the website Ubuntu Geek.
I opened the terminal and typed in the directions. The end result is the above error message, along with the Ubuntu Software Center not working properly. If I click on Departments the category either doesn't load, or partially loads with several icons remaining blank.
Please help, as I'm clearly beyond the limits of my knowledge.
Hello Enrico. I recognize this error, and it is not a bug but a user mistake. Please continue to use this thread for help, but I'm converting this to a question to clean up the bug list.
The Software Center is complaining that there is an error in the list of software sources in /etc/apt/ sources. list. Please open the file (run "gedit /etc/apt/ sources. list" without quotes) and paste the first few lines of the file here.
PS - I see from your profile on Launchpad you just joined now to report this. Good spirit. :D
