the fix to this bug is to remove debian/patches/38_lp_569289.patch and add my patch

the crash only happens when creating an irc account. because we made our own patch to make freenode as default network. then upstream made a simpler way for distros to set default irc network by editing a single line. but in that process our patch was not removed.

Thank you taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, processing the crash report to get detailed information for the developers failed as the retracer did not generate a useful symbolic stack trace.
Please try to obtain a backtrace manually following the instructions at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and upload the backtrace (as an attachment) to the bug report. This will greatly help us in tracking down your problem.

thanks for your bug report. is this still an issue with empathy 2.32 in Ubuntu 10.10 if so can you please get a backtrace as requested in previous comments.

Amine, it seems i was little outdated on the patch. it was already changed before this bug report.
