Bug Description

Binary package hint: plymouth

I don't experience a smooth transition from pylmouth to x. After the ubuntu boot logo has shown and X starts garbage is on the screen. Either it is some gfx from my last session (probably form gfx memory) or I see the image attached. This is shown for about two seconds and then gdm shows up correctly.

If the video goes wrong only after X takes over, I don't think this is a plymouth bug. Reassigning to X.

Can you tell if there's a mode-switch transition when X starts? Although it looks like (although I can't be sure from these logs) X is using the same resolution as has been set by the kernel, there are two valid 1400x1050 modes with different refresh rates. It's entirely possible that X is setting a new mode, differing only in refresh rate.

If you can't tell, you could reboot, setting the “drm.debug=0x04” kernel command line parameter (add it just after “quiet splash”), and attach the output of dmesg here.

Don't know if there's a mode-switch. I've attached the dmesg output after adding the drm.debug parameter.
