Bug Description

Hi, I'm using Kubuntu Lucid Lynx on a Samsung NC10 and I couldn't change the backlight for a long time

The only thing that worked for me was using
setpci -s 00:02.1 F4.B=FF
replacing FF by a hex value in range 00:FF to adjust brightness

When I run xbacklight it outputs "No outputs have backlight property"

I hope it helps you to fix the bug, and I remain available for more info

Hi Guillaume,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/current/ . If the issue remains, please run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 623271

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone,
This issue seemed to fix by itself, but by-the-way I installed gnome on my kubuntu, so maybe that's why (I doubt). Maybe it was because of a system update...)

Please note that I did the apport-collect after the bug was fixed, so maybe it's not that important
I'm downloading the upstream kernel right now...

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, according to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NC10#Karmic%209.10 (which I'm noticed myself too), the brightness control needs at least BIOS 11CA or higher due to the new graphics system introduced in Karmic. Therefore, I'm closing this bug report as this issue is related to your BIOS which version is older than 11CA. Instructions for BIOS upgrading are available at http://www.voria.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=248 (do it at your own risk). If you do not want to upgrade your BIOS, you will find an alternative solution at http://www.voria.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=296 Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.
