Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

After installing the recent updates to Maverick, I can no longer get working display, only full-screen corruption. At August 22nd everything worked ok, so it looks like the problem is caused by the updates installed at August 23rd.

The only thing that shows normally is the mouse pointer.

Thanks for your report. Is it still an issue with the final version of maverick ?

I have the same problem with my notebook with an ATI Xpress 200M videocard. The only difference is - my screen corruptions are coloured.
Sometimes I see this bug when I am watching a video with an Gnome MPlayer and switching to another window (or just moving a cursor), sometimes it happens when I use a Firefox with a flash and with NoScript turned on. Sometimes this bug happens as soon as I log in. So, I don't know the reason of it and I can't tell you the steps to reproduce this issue.

Ubuntu 10.10 amd64, updated from 10.04 LTS. All available updates are installed, including the latest video drivers from Ubuntu x-swat PPA.

One other thing - when this bug happens, I can switch to another terminal (by Ctrl+Alt+F1, for example). So, I can kill a process from there. Sometimes I have to kill a Firefox, sometimes - a video player. After that I get a working system with no screen corruptions. Until the next time, unfortunately.

Sorry for my bad English
I also have a ATI Technologies Inc RS482 [Radeon Xpress 200M] on a laptop and have the same troubles.
However, as I turn the additional effects that require efficient desktop graphics cards still have about 60 FPS on the current desktop. If he switches to the second desktop is my card gets a "kick" and I have about 1200 FPS. I'm waiting, maybe someone will get the idea to the contrary.

The same problem encountered on Fedora 14th

Vasily, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-ati REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.
