Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

It's since the last update packages that I can't see anymore the "network" system folder and no other PC can connect with this one with Ubuntu.
The full steps are these:
- Accepted and installed last 3 updates shown by the system
- Trying to access a shared folder from a Windows PC on the same network, but this Windows PC (and other PC) was reachable from Ubuntu PC and all its shared folders were usable
- Look to the local Ubuntu shared folder properties and found it was no more shared
- Removed Samba packages, reboot, installed Samba packages, reboot
- since then: cannot open "network" resource with Nautilus; cannot share any Ubuntu folder (either the "share" voice in the folder pop-up menu doesn't appear anymore using right mouse button and the "share" tab shows viewing the folder properties); even with a Samba server properly configured, no PC can access the Ubuntu one

As I see you try only with the network names, can you try with the ip's. And about smb.conf you really need/use this:

 logon drive = m:
 logon home = \\%L\homes\%u
 logon path = \\%L\profiles\%u
 logon script = %G.bat

They are normally for domain controlled networks, not intended for normal users. Maybe if you clean your samba configuration file it should work.

Attached a sample configuration file.

When you remove samba, the package nautilus-share is removed too because it's dependencies. Try to install it, then see if that correct your problem.

I've tried to connect to 2 Windows PC using the IP address instead of the network name, but still can't connect (while the 2 windows PC normally connect each other). See file "SAMBA_extra_info2" contained in the "Samba_Info_2" compressed file.

I've removed the "logon" lines from "smb.conf", I've installed the nautilus-share, reboot the PC, but still nothing: I can't share folder, I can't access to other PC on network, no PC on network cabìn connect to this.

I've taken 2 screen shots form one of the Windows PC:
picture "UbuntuVisibleInNetwork.JPG" shows that the Ubuntu PC is visible on the network
picture "MicrosoftError.JPG" shows the Windows error when I try to connect (doubl-click) to Ubuntu PC; it is in Italian and it says more or less

"It's impossible to access \\Paolo-Ubuntu. User may not have the necessary authorization to use the
network resouce. For access authorization please contact server administrator.
Impossible to find network path"

Thank's

I found it was missing another package, so I've installed it: the package is "File Sharing" (service for file sharing). Now I can share folders using Nautilus.
But I cannot reach any folder from network or see other PC on the network because all the other problems are still on.

The only thing that you can verify is the access permisions, are all pc's with the same user or giving the correct user, the user have acces to recourses, and by the way, whatever that mean permisions.

Hey, something new about my bug.

For once I was in front of my PC while rebooting it after an update and I could take this photo with my cell phone.

It's not perfect but it seems to me it can give you a hint of what's happening on my system.

Thank's
