PC freezes because of munin

Binary package hint: munin

on installing munin, my PC freezes and i need to reset it.

i tries what is causing it, the cause is the S.M.A.R.T. plugin.

As already said in my post ...

Steps to reproduce:
1) apt-get install munin
2) PC Freezes

I even further debugged it, and the smart plugin is the cause. and as soon as the postinst script runs the autodetect feature of the smart plugin, the pc freezes.

Expected: properly installed and working munin (do i expect too much?)
encountered: Freeze

and smartctl itself is usable without causing freezes.

and how to reproduce it with the bare script:
apt-get source munin #lucid

cp plugins/node.d/smart_.in smart_
vim smart_ #replace @@python@@ by #!/usr/bin/python
./smart_ suggest #and now the PC freezes, and even magicSysRQ does not work.
