exact same issue here. 1.5 TB device in external case. Problem doesn't occur under Mac OS X, so it cannot be due to bad cable or bad power supply. It's a really annoying bug that should be fixed!

Same happens here with at least two different USB devices:

usb 1-4.3: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 5
usb 1-4.3: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 6
usb 2-2: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 6
usb 2-2: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 7
usb 2-2: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 9

While trying to use an USB device in VirtualBox (sometimes it works, sometimes it does not recognize the device in the VM) it got a little chattier:

This exact issue is happening to me. New drive (Samsung HD203WI) in an external USB case (Eagle Consus). Fresh install of Lucid x64 on a re-purposed Dell desktop.

Experiencing intermittent USB drive disconnects during sustained transfer of files from another local machine via rsync/ssh.

Dell Optiplex GX620 3.5GB RAM
Pentium D Dual-Core
Ubuntu Server Lucid 10.04 x64

This is a very annoying bug. This entry is from 2010, but I'm with Ubuntu since 2005 and it has been around forever. All my usb sticks or drives just works with every non linux OS and that's the main annoyance. I hope it will get fixed one day, seems like a really hard bug to beat. Count me in to provide any info developers needs, as always.
