Bug Description

Hi. I've tried both the default and "failsafe graphics" boot options with the new Knot 3 cd, and in both cases after seeing the boot splash-screen progress bar advance for a bit, I get a black screen, and my computer is unresponsive.

I've had this problem in Debain when using the xserver-xorg-video-ati driver, (even the latest version in debian 'testing'), which I presume Ubuntu is trying to use. In my experience in debian, disabling the "load dri" line in xorg.conf seems to fix it, but there's no way to do this when using the Desktop CD, so I'm going to try the altrenate install.

(system specs: athlon xp 2500+, abit nf7-s motherboard, sapphire radeon 9600xt, 512mb ram)

I marked this as a duplicate of bug #67487 - posted there about a new workaround I found (setting agp speed to 4x in the bios) which seems to be allowing others to use the livecd as well.

The 18 month support period for Edgy Eft 6.10 has reached its end of life. As a result, we are closing the linux-source-2.6.17 Edgy Eft kernel task. However, development has already began for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. It would be helpful if you could test the upcoming release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . If the issue still exists, please update this report by changing the Status of the "linux" task from "Incomplete" to "New". We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Thanks!
