Bug Description
Binary package hint: plasma-
In Kbuntu 10.10 after having configured the Japanese IM (ibus, anthy) - from command line and through GTK config dialog, no settings are exposed in KDE, but that's another issue - nothing gets displayed in the input method panel.
It used to work in earlier versions of Kubuntu (at least in Lucid) with some quirks, but it does not work anymore.
N.B.: ibus itself works when invoked with keyboard shortcuts.
Relevant packages:
plasma-
plasma-
ibus 1.3.7-1ubuntu3
ibus-anthy 1.2.1-1
Steps to reproduce:
*sudo apt-get install ibus ibus-qt4 ibus-gtk ibus-anthy plasma-
*run "im-switch -c" and choose ibus-kde
*logout and login
*run "ibus-setup" and add anthy input mode (or another, doesn't really matter)
*check if the IM works: launch a text editor; press ctrl+space; write something; press "enter"; press ctrl+space again
*add the "input method panel" plasmoid
At this point some icons should appear to choose the IM and alphabet etc., but they don't.
Restarting the ibus-daemon with the "--panel" option does not help either.
kimpanel has never really worked well with kubuntu, and maverick is no different. I have the same problem as reported there. And this sucks quite a lot since people who have to use IME to type their characters represent around 30% of the world's population.
Anyway, adding Chinese (simplified) from the System settings panel seems to install all the correct packages, however they do not seem to be configured properly to run together.
