Got this when opening Synaptic and (accidentally) typing some text into it.

I can confirm this. The synaptic window opens with all controls enabled. Then the window gets disabled while some processing is done, before it's finally enabled. If typing something into synaptic while the window is enabled for the first time (before it's disabled), it crashes.
