Bug Description

Binary package hint: software-center

1. Install Ubuntu 10.04.
2. Upgrade to Maverick.
3. Double-click on a .deb file.

What happens:
* gdebi opens to display the package.

What should happen:
* Ubuntu Software opens to display the package.
* gdebi should have been uninstalled by the Maverick upgrade process.

Disagree about removing gdebi / gdebi-gtk. It would be reasonably to change the default binding (mime type?) for .deb to invoke software-center, however there are many other packages which may have their own separate bindings which would be broken by removing gdebi. This includes 3rd party installs (e.g. Opera, Google Chrome).

It would be great if someone could test whether any programs really are dependent on gdebi. See also bug 634915.

This is taken care of in recent releases of Ubuntu, and gdebi does the job in Maverick afaik. So, I'll mark this one as fix released.
