Can't record sound with built in mic

Bug Description
I can play back sound easily on this laptop, but recording doesn't work.. The sound preferences doesn't show any audio levels, even if i select mic or line in.. I didn't test line in to see if that input works. Audacity doesn't pick up sound either.
