Bug Description

Binary package hint: rosegarden

Rosegarden starts jack automatically, but this prevents being able to use alsa synths such as timidity with rosegarden. In previous versions of rosegarden, it wasn't started automatically, but in version 1.7.3 upwards it starts jack automatically. It shouldn't do this: if you want jack then you can start it manually, or at least there should be an option in the settings to determine whether jack starts automatically or not. If you try and kill jack when rosegarden is running rosegarden will just restart it: you have to trick rosegarden into not starting jack in order to use timidity or another alsa synth.

Note: you can use timidity with jack, but latency is terrible compared to plain alsa.

At some point we added an option to Rosegarden to stop it from launching JACK. Go to Edit > Preferences... > Audio > General tab > Start JACK Automatically. If you uncheck this, JACK will not be started by Rosegarden. This bug can likely be closed.
