Bug Description
Binary package hint: xserver-
I'm running maverick on a 2.6.35-15-generic kernel. This is a Dell X300.
When xorg tries to load the vesa driver, it errors out (also see attached Xorg.log):
(EE) VESA: Kernel modesetting driver in use, refusing to load
$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu maverick (development branch)
Release: 10.10
$ apt-cache policy xserver-
xserver-
Installed: 1:2.3.0-3build1
Candidate: 1:2.3.0-3build1
$ lspci

00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02)
(I would've run ubuntu-bug, but I had to boot another kernel to log this.

that's not a bug. Vesa can't work with KMS, use fbdev instead (which is what the xserver falls back on when the native driver fails)
