Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

The ussername field is always empty no matter if kdm is set to remember it or
not.

The error in the log saying :
Jul 29 18:17:58 faramir-linux kdm_greet[6448]: Data directory "/var/lib/kdm" not accessible: No such file or directory

is responsible. Changing owner of "/var/lib/kdm" to "kdm" fixes it.
