Bug Description

Binary package hint: flashplugin-nonfree

Hi,
although it says this package installs succefully, the tar archive that it downloads during installation is not always succefully retrieved.

the problem is that it uses wget to retrieve the tar package. and unless wget is specifically set to use http_proxy from /etc/wgetrc, the file is not retrieved when a proxy server exists on the network. this is irrespective of whether the global proxy and synaptic proxy settings have been set.

suggested solution: pass an additional argument to wget to use the currently set proxy when retrieving the file.

Sorry, But if wget is needed to use a proxy, the user should set that up.

Bug Invalid.

well here's why it makes no sense -

1. most normal users need flash e.g. youtube
2. in lucid they can comfortably set the global proxy as well as the synaptic proxy.
3. so how do you expect that normal user to go edit /etc/wgetrc to make flash work?

there is no error even thrown out during installation that says it didn't install properly.
its not a question of solution as much as one of usability.

One thing that suddenly appears confusing - why is the package affected wget and not flashplugin-installer or flashplugin-nonfree? but whatever suits the developers i guess.. .
