Bug Description
I am running Gnus against several SSL IMAP servers here without w3m-el-e21 without problems. I guess the package description is out of date.
vnix$ dlocate -s gnus | tail -5
A note for people using the nnimap backend: SSL support requires w3-el-e2X; and even otherwise w3-el makes following hyperlinks in mail and news easier . The upstream sources for this package are available at http://
(The final sentence should probably be a separate paragraph, too.)
vnix$ dlocate -l gnus w3-

My primary work mail account is an Exchange (yuck) box served over IMAPS and MAPI only, and I have a number of secondary imaps boxes on Dovecot and messagingengine.com (not sure what they are using, Cyrus?)
M-x list-processes includes this:
Proc Status Buffer Tty Command
---- ------ ------ --- -------
imap run *nnimap* work (none) /bin/bash -c openssl s_client -quiet -ssl3 -connect imapsserver:993
M-x describe-variable ssl-program-name returns "openssl"
Hello?
It is still the case that SSL appears to work fine without w3-el (... thank goodness)
... But it also appears that the package description has changed (in Dapper already, in fact) and no longer includes the passage I was complaining about.
