Bug Description
Computer: msi u230
wiri realtec chip: rt3090
Wifi Chip not recognized, and incorrect driver rt2860sta is installed, with warning "module is from the staging directory, the quality is unknown, you have been warned".
I am a relatively naive user, and would prefer one of the following to happen instead:
1. Install the correct driver and check it out.
2. If driver is not working, or correct driver is not found and another is substituted, display a meaningful message the user can act on. ]
3. Any system error message should have a default (recommended) user action, including this sort of driver error.
Additional suggestion:
Ubuntu already collects statistics on software packages. It would be nice if there was an option to permit users to submit hardware configurations to a hardware database, so Ubuntu can decide which device drivers need to be installed. It would be even better if there was a database of device signatures and a user option to retrieve the missing drivers when the system notices one is needed. (A pop-up with "install driver" as a recommended option would be nice.
