Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

Firefox dies repeatedly for no apparent reason. This happens both when I'm actively using it or when I'm away for a while; Sometimes I can resume my session but sometimes the "restore session" window appears. It tends to happen several times per day, sometimes several times within an hour. It makes using Fx problematic.

Debugging is a pain because Fx sometimes freezes (broken pipe) when run from gdb.

Anyway, gdb doesn't seem to be much help here:

----8<----

Program terminated with signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
The program no longer exists.
(gdb) bt
No stack.

----8<----

after telling gdb "run", see above. Sometimes a "restore session" window, sometimes the session resumes, sometimes it will run for a couple of hours, sometimes it dies after a couple of minutes. Or a freeze occurs, but only when debugging.

Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Sometimes Firefox profiles can become corrupt and/or extensions can conflict. Could you please try this with a new profile and see if the problem still exists? You do not need to delete your old profile to test. If this helps, you might want to try to disable all your extensions and re-enable them one by one until you find the problematic one.

You can start the profile manager with the following command:
firefox -ProfileManager
