Bug Description
If you try to use it with python2.4 it fails because syntax is incorrect. I fixed the code by replacing the new statements with old style in attached patch.

Thanks for opening this bug report and attaching a patch!
Looks like these changes are not impacting to much, I'll see if we can get these fixed for Python 2.4. However, I've decided to drop support for v2.4, so it might break in the long run again. The unittests will probably not work, for example.
