Bug Description

system monitor has excessive cpu usage when on the resources tab. the graph seems to be too cpu intense, uses about 0-10% on my c2d. on the processes tab it gets even worse, up to 50% cpu usage when you scroll really fast up and down. something is not right here and needs some serious tweaking.

And there's also an existing patch to reduce general cpu usage here: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=599929
